Are Any Two People the Same? Moving Education Toward Humanization and Away from Standardization

Last spring, I had the opportunity to discuss and dissect the current debate about standardization on the Voices in Montessori podcast. In the episode, I discuss why our current drive to measure numerous minute “skills,” such as those in the Common Core State Standards, is a modern invention, driven by the political and economic influence of neoliberalism. Furthermore, the entire system is designed to funnel profits to education testing companies, who were responsible for the Common Core State Standards and the (overblown) frenzy around “learning loss” during the pandemic. This history is highly documented but seldom discussed in the mainstream.
