Navigating The Pre-Teen and Teenage Years- Montessori Style!
Why do we have a cultural image of the "disengaged" adolescent?
How can parents navigate the social and physical rebirth that their young people are going through?
Recently, I was asked to appear on the Midweek Montessori Livestream put on by the Authentic Institute of Montessori (AIM) to discuss how parents can understand and navigate their relationships with their young people as traverse adolescence.
The reality is that the cultural image we have of adolescents is negative because we don’t prepare environments based on their needs. When given autonomy, independence, and adult-like responsibilities, the moody adolescent becomes calm, funny, introspective, and caring.
The age-old adage stands: Change the environment, not the child!
